I have a 1970 40Hp Model 40EL70A. Gear oil is leaking around shift rod. Parts sketch shows a brass bushing, oring and gasket washer installed from the top side of the lower unit but there is none on this unit Could there have been a design change to install the shift rod seal from the bottom of the lower unit? If so how do I find the parts I need?
OK never mind I found the shift rod bushing, o-ring and washer. The parts diagram is wrong. These parts are removed and reinstalled from the bottom of the lower unit not the top.
