1998 conversion

I just bought a 1998 9.9hp Johnson (four stroke high thrust) and it is a long shaft. With the size on my boat it would be preferred that I use a short shaft. How easy is it to convert it from a long shaft to a short. Can I just remover the extension section?

Would have to change drive shaft, shift shaft and water tube unless they have the extension shafts you can remove.
