You'll have to excuse me, I believe it is a 79 but I am not home to check at this moment as I'm traveling.
Last summer I had my starter rebuilt for my outboard engine and it worked fine a few days. One day out on the lake the starter started making this terrible grinding noise as it connected with the flywheel. It was almost like it wasn't getting enough power. I've tried a new battery and it still skips on the flywheel. I can manually lead the starter up to the flywheel and connect the teeth than go start the boat. this is usually a two man job and is obviously dangerous. Don't want anyone losing a finger. The starter is screwed into the exact same place just doesn't get the kick it needs to connect with the flywheel. Any ideas? the engine runs like a top. I'm just sick of taking the cover off every time I want to start it.
