After replacing the impeller and putting things back together, I find that I have neutral and reverse, but cannot shift to forward. I have worked pain-
stakingly, with the shift rod to insure the connection of the upper and lower
rods is correct...I can't imagine what I can do to change things for the better. I removed the upper scew at the connection, moved the lever to
the forward position, and applied pressure upwards while reinserting the screw tightly. Obviously the shift rod is too long, not allowing for the forward
shifting. Since last having the boat in the water I had an authorized shop
mechanic help with connecting the upper and lower rods and putting the unit
back together, and recall seeing him "tinkering" in the area of the gear shift
lever, possibly turning screws/adjusting the link. Is that where I should now
look, in hopes of making an adjustment to shorten the shift rod? I have the
Service Manual for the unit, but get no help in resolving this issue. I'd
greatly appreciate any help I can get, so I can quit working and get to
fishing!
