Hello all,
I recently bought a boat that had been sitting for 2 years. I drained the fuel, rebuilt the carbs, and added seafoam with the fuel/oil mix. All plugs are new and gapped correctly. I have also rebuilt the fuel pump. That being said, the boat runs out well to begin, then planes out about 4200 rpm @20 mph. Sometimes, it hits WOT @ 10 mph less than 3k rpm, or even jumps to 5500 rpm @ 36 mph. Thats with the hand throttle staying consistent and not changing anything. A recent test showed 122psi on 2 cylinders, 120 and 116 on the other two. The majority of the time, it stays at 4k-4.4k rpm. The first problem I've noticed, is the fuel ball (new) doesn't get hard and stay that way. It seems to be sucking some air near the tank, although I've tried pumping the ball while the boat is in motion and had no changes. The boat also seems to be using an unusually high amount of fuel, about 5 gph, without a high amount of smoke. It has been idleing less than 700 rpm in neutral, and I've almost screwed the idle set all the way in to get it to go into gear without dieing, but that was after all of the work/tests. Any ideas would be appreciated.
