I have a 1996 Johnson 50 hp Model J50TLEDS that is not getting fire to the spark plugs on 1st of the day cold start up unless I follow these steps.
Step #1 remove the bolt that grounds the black ground wire of the power pac. (Power Pac part number 585261)
Step #2 with the power pac ground wire hanging loose turn the motor over approx. 3 seconds.
Step #3 replace the ground wire back to it's proper place making it's ground.
Step #4 turn the key to start and it fires right up and will start without problem the entire remainder of the fishing day.
These steps have worked without fail as the problem has been on going for about 18 month.
My question for a Tech is do you think the power pac is bad or could there be another part like the ignition swith or something else causing this?
