96' 150 Oceanrunner head O-Rings.....

I have a friend who has a 96' 150 Oceanrunner and he had someone do some work on it. They put the heads back on with the red high temp. permatex RTV and didn't put the O-Rings on.
This motor has the o-rings around each cylinder instead of head gaskets and my question is after I put the O-Rings on what type of sealer should I use or should I use anything at all?
I would think without any sealer the heads would leak water but I'm not sure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Put some grease on orings and use RTV around water passages in head.
