What Happened? Help!

Hi all,

Can someone advise what happened, or what the problem is with this motor? I am asking for the owner, this is all I know. He said,

"I was launching on the Mississippi one day last fall, turned the motor on, let it choke for about 20 secs, then heard a "chunk". When I took off the cowling, this what I saw."

It looks like a rod broke or top main bearing failure, it would need to be disassembled to find cause.
