Got a 96 60hp Johnson. Has run great the past 6 years. 2 weeks ago, on the cover of the elec choke, one of the little "tits" broke. On the cap, one line comes in with gas, 2 smaller ones go out, 1 to top carb and the other splits off to the middle and bottom carb. Ordered the parts, put them on. Now, it maybe will come up on plane or may not. I have found if I keep hitting the choke once every second or so, the engine will come up to full power and run 5500 rpm. Let it go for more than 2 seconds, the engine will bog down. Press in on the key to activate the choke, it picks up but have to do it every second to keep it at high rpm. I have replaced all the hoses from the fuel pump on, just in case I had something sucking air. I have taken the carbs apart, no dirt or any other stuff in them.
1. The adjustment screws on the right side. What are the starting adjustments? Turn in all the way and then out to ? to keep it running. I haven't played with them at all for 6 years, never needed to.
2. I can hear the choke solenoid clicking when I press the key to choke it, and at an idle, it hit for more than a second, it will kill the engine, so I know it is working.
3. The choke valve, red with an o-ring and the outter endhas a pointer on it, should it be pointing to the rear when operating? I believe it was pointed to the rear before it broke but am not sure.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanx
