I'm a power boat newbie and need some technical help.
I have a 2001 Triumph 17DC with a 1999 50hp Johnson (electric start). It has a OMC Outboard 2000 REMOTE CONTROL - BINNACLE - SINGLE LEVEL - KEY SWITCH with SYSTEM CHECK. I am the second owner of the boat and bought it in 2009. The boat has worked great this year and I have logged in over 160 miles to date.
Now, to my problem - yesterday I paddled out to my mooring and the boat would not start. I checked the battery and it was fully charged. The bilge pump and bait-well aerator worked fine. I put the outboard control in neutral but when I turn the key nothing happens. The check engine lights don't function. Regardless of moving the throttle control out of neutral and back again (pushing the button to engage neutral) - nothing works. I checked all the fuses that I'm familiar with (battery & outboard).
I was able to locate a parts diagram of the OMC remote control on the internet. But I could not find any documentation on any adjustments or troubleshooting this unit.
So before I haul the boat back to the dealer, I was hoping someone might have some advice or help.
Thanks - John (Maineboater)
