I have a 1978 55 hp johnson that will not start when hooked up to fuel tank but when disconnected it will run until fuel is used up. I have replaced fuel pump and hose any suggestions?

Some thing doesn't make sense. Are you saying that you hook up the fuel line, pump the primer bulb until firm and the engine will not fire. Then all you do is unhook the fuel line and the engine will fire up untill it uses up the fuel in the carb bowls? Having the fuel line hooked up to the engine has no effect on the starting of the engine once the carb bowls are full of fuel.
