Hello, I have a 1991 sailmaster 8 that has no spark. I've eliminated the stop circuit as a possible problem by disconnecting it. The coil checks out ok according to some ohm specs I found on the internet (I don't have a manual). I checked the coil's primary input with my multimeter on AC volts set to record maximum (rms) and cranked the engine over but there was no voltage (well, a fraction of a volt). Next I removed the flywheel, then disconnected the input wires (brown pair) to the ignition module. I then tested the resistance across those brown wires coming from a mag-pickup coil (in the parts breakdown this is called a charge coil and LAM assembly). I read .925 K ohms. I can find no spec. for this anywhere online but I'm guessing this is way too much resistance. Can anyone give me the specs for this? Any other ideas?
By the way, I've been following some other threads along similar lines and people are talking about the "trigger" coil. I see no trigger coil anywhere in the parts breakdown. What are they talking about? The only other magnetos on my engine are the ones that go to the rectifier for battery charging.
I'm assuming that this is the way things work. Please correct me if I'm mistaken: The ignition pulse is originally instigated by this small magneto with wires (brown) leading into the ignition module. The ignition module stores this by capacitor, then discharges to the coil's primary windings according to correct timing. Am I missing something?
