  • 1975 9.9 Backfiring

    I've just purchased a 1975 9.9hp
It has two problems, one I think I have a bad fuel pump, already working on a rebuild kit. What happens is when it goes in gear it will only run at higher rpm's for a few seconds then dies, and when I pump the primer bulb it takes one or two full pumps before the bulb get's hard. Fuel pump right?

The real problem that I can't seem to find an answer to is that the engine runs for about 5 seconds then coughs or backfires, stumbles and catches up to itself.
I've pulled the carb and cleaned it, check the plugs, and coils, seems to be getting good spark.

Here is a video of the engine doing it's thing, any advice would be helpful.

If coughs then still running too lean, plugged low speed circuit in carb or air leak on intake manifold.
