Hi, recently purchased boat for restoration, previous owner put a longshaft motor on short 15 1/2" transom. motor itself is in great condition, it had been completely reconditioned by master tech. I do not want to extend the transom up 5" or so to bring cavitation plate even with keel where it should be. I would like to convert this motor to a short shaft setup. The motor itself has the 5" gearcase extension between power head and lower unit. I would greatly appreciate feedback with regards to parts and procedure I would need for conversion. Also I noticed that johnson driveshafts/shift rod lever for this year is obsolete, in parts listing for drive shaft what lenght is considered 'standard', short or long shaft.
Thank you for your time !

You can remove the gearcase to see if has the shaft extension on drive shaft, shift shaft and water tube that can be removed, otherwise would have to replace both shafts and water tube to shorter ones.
