Bought a used motor down in Texas and have got it going after putting a water pump and a fuel pump on it. Took it to the lake today and it ran fine, no problems. Does seem like it is bogging down and it's a little small for this boat. I would like a recommendation on what prop to try on this. It is a 28' bass pro pontoon boat. I have rigged this up for fishing and it is great. My wife has had a stroke but loves to go out to the lake. I feel like the motor is lugging down and doesn't get the RPMs it should. Like a car or truck that is too high geared. It has a 13 1/4 by 17 on it now and was thinking to cut down on the pitch. As high as props are would like to get it close first time. Any guess what I should try first. Thanks in advance, Gene.

prop size.
I have noticed there are no replies on any questions on prop size on any threads on here. Maybe because there are too many variables. I promise I won't hold anybody to any suggestions they might make. As far as I can figure out looks like I need to start with a 14 by 11 prop, Solas. Mercury has a suggestion on one of their props but I don't think it will fit this Johnson. I am going to go to a guy I know that has a bunch of junk boats and see what he might have to try. Doubt he will have anything like this but if I could just get closer than the 13 1/4 by 17 I will be happy. Seems like the last 25% of the throttle it just boggs down. This is one big heavy boat and I am sure that is the problem.

It seems like I am the only one here 24/7 with advice should I have ones answer. Occasionally another will jump in but not always. Unfortunately I was with engines only and not with rigging, a category where prop size seems to fall in.
For the answer to your propeller question, I'd suggest you try one of (or both) or the following forums: MarineEngine.com and iBoats.com . I'm sure that my fellow members there will have the information you seek.
