I was wondering if I have to disconnect the terminal on the outboard when charging the batteries in duel batt mode on a 70 HP 1996 Johnson. ctek charger

Just be absolutely sure that you NEVER accidentally hook up the charger backwards as that would be the same as installing a battery backwards. That would destroy the rectifier or the regulator/rectifier if so equipped.
By the wording of your initial post, I assume you have a battery switch installed so as to do a disconnect simply by turning a knob to OFF if that reversal of a charger is a possibility.

Duel batt
Yes ,have a battery isolater switch on the boat run two century 730 marine Pro Batt .
Have put the quick connect cable on the house batt and put the isolater switch too both batt to charge them,was concerned about the back flow of current to the motor.

Just to be sure we are on the same page,you mean that shorting out the batteries will burnout the rectifier etc(com sence) and that the reverse current flow to the motor is OK ?
