I had to take apart the steering cable at the motor to unsieze it, cleaned it all up got it moving freely greased it and reinstalled it. Now the motor is turning too far too one side just about pushing the linkage through the tube but turns somewhat normally the other way. I didn't touch the helm only turned the wheel back and forth to allow enough room for the cable and linkage to come out. I guess my question is do I need to adjust it and if so how? Or am I looking at a screwed up cable? Thank you in advance for any help. FYI motor is a 95 48hp spl.

Steering adjustment?

I assume that the steering cable is attached directly to/through the steering/tilt tube of the engine? If so, any adjustment would be between the end of the steering cable and the end of the link that attaches to the steering bracket of the engine.
Are you sure that, with the cable removed from the engine... or simply having the link disconnected from the engine, that the cable is indeed moving from one extreme to the other, that is "OUT" (usually no problem) to "IN" (debris still in tip of cable?).

Thank you for the reply, so the linkage that goes through the tilt tube comes off? Dumb me I guess that makes sense now. Me or the guy helping me with it may have spun it without realizing it. It pushes to the extreme left looking at it from the stern, so what you said sounds like that's it. Thanks again will give that a look soon.
