Hi all,
Last year we obtained a boat from a family friend with a '72 25hp outboard. Ran fine the couple times we had it out. Previous owner took good care of it, and the couple times we had it out it started after 1 or 2 pulls. At one point late summer, I ran into an issue where I couldn't start it for the life of me. Was still at the launch so I fished from shore a bit and took it back home. After alot of trying and testing spark, I finally did get it started. When it was time to winterize it was hard to start but got it running and winterized.
So far this spring, I cannot get it to fire more than a second on the first attempt. Taking the plugs out, they're wet, so I let things dry a bit and try again. Same issue (starts to fire then dies, then nothing on subsequent pulls). I've since replaced the plugs, replaced the fuel pump, checked the flywheel key, things look great under the flywheel, carb torn down and rebuilt multiple time (clean as a whistle), and checked compression. Compression is at about 70psi on both cylinders.
I've run out of ideas, and can't get more than a quick second of firing before she dies right away and won't so much as pop again until the plugs are dried.
Going to try new fuel this week, since I've got spark, fuel, and compression. Any other ideas I'm missing?
