Hi Gang,
I'm new to the forum and fairly new to boating. I have a 1976 35 HP Johnson that overheats after about 10 minutes. The water pump impeller is new and the thermostat is new. I tested the lower unit/water pump in a tank while spinning the shaft with a drill; it appears to work fine. I have taken the head off to verify no obstruction and put a borescope through the water tube and up through the motor as far as I can get it. I spray watered through the thermostat housing. After about 10 minutes the water spitting out of the telltales is extremely hot and the temperature of the head cover is also very hot. There are two holes on the front of the exhaust housing just above the lower mount. When it's running, water pours out of these holes. These holes go into the drive shaft housing. I don't understand why water would or should be coming out. The o-rings on the plastic impeller spacer tube seem to be fine.
Is water supposed to come out of these holes? Is this possibly where I'm loosing water pressure to cool the head?
