I have a 93 Johnson outboard and when I first start motor it acts like it is only running on 3 cylinders ,I put it in gear and it will hardly run , but it will finally kick in and take off and it is good for the rest of the day, It has been taking about 15 minutes of starting and restarting the motor when it dies before it finally kicks in and runs good. Any ideas on what could be wrong and how to check it

First thing to do is to check the compression: What is the psi reading of each individual cylinder?
Second thing: All s/plugs removed, check the spark. It should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame... a real SNAP! Does it?
You can use a medium size philips screwdriver (#2 I believe) inserted into the spark plug boot spring connector, then hold the screwdriver shank approximately 7/16" away from the block to check the spark
