hi, i'm new to this site. i've been told there's some good people on here that dont mind helping. i'll state the problem and hope someone can help. my outboard runs great sitting in the driveway running on muffs. whem i put it in the water to run it, it wont even get on top. when i give it gas to take off it wants to die. all new rebuilt carbs, new fuel lines, new spark plugs, new optical sensor, new timing wheel, new gas, etc. feel bad for my kids because i bought the boat to take them out but i cant leave the boat ramp because it wont even get on top. runs good until you try and get on top then it just wants to die. thought i was pretty decent at figuring this stuff out, but i'm thinking not so much now. any one have any suggestions??

I retired in 1991 so your engine's design is foreign to me, however.........

If you're saying that the engine wants to bog down, die out, when throttle is applied, that's normally caused by fouled high speed jets that are located horizontally in the bottom center portion of the float chamber, way behind those drain screws.

Clean them carefully with a piece of single strand steel wire as solvent just doesn't do that job properly.

First of all, thanks for your response. I've tried everything. I believe I found out what it was this afternoon. I Again, for the seventh time checked the cone shaped gas filter going into the motor, it was completely plugged with what I first thought it was grease. Not oil, not gas. I believe the brand new fuel hose that's only been on for months, is already coming apart. This ethanol gas is causing me a lot of headaches. I'm hoping this is it. The filter was completely covered, not even sure how it was getting gas. Thanks again for the help and response.
