I took my boat out today and we turned the motor off and then tried to start it and it barely started could this be not enough cranking amps? Also were were sitting ther in the water and the motor was idling then the throttle /ignition part started to make a like buzzing noise. Any suggestions

Okay... The 1982 90hp Johnson has a warning horn that is located within the control box that sounds off if the engine starts to overheat. This is the only problem you will encounter that will provide a warning... a steady constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeping.

It will start to sound off before the engine is hot enough to do any damage, however it one continues to run it, other problems will occur such as possible head gasket failure, water entering cylinders, bolts loosing due to heat, that sort of thing.

Time to drop the lower unit to inspect the water pump assembly.

On a scale of 1-10 how hard would that be if I was to do it myself.

That depends on your mechanic expertise. If somewhat mechanically inclined, probably 6, perhaps less. If you intend to keep that engine awhile, I strongly suggest you obtain a service manual that is specifically for that engine. That would be a great help and a money saver.

Perhaps this site, or MarineEngine.com, your local dealership, eBay, to name a few. DO NOT buy one that takes in a slew of different horsepowers as they are confusing as Hell!

Buy one that is "Specifically" for the model engine you have... model number!
