I have just joined the forum in the hope of finding an answer or two to some questions.
I am stripping and refurbishing my 1985 Johnson 8hp outboard. I have not been able to remove the lower gearbox unit or the powerhead. I thought I may be able to separate the crankcase halves and access things that way but I can't get them apart either. I have removed all the bolts I can see and have scoured the internet for diagrams. All the ones I have found show no reason for the engine not to come apart easily. As far as I can tell the only thing holding it together now is the splined shaft between the powerhead aand the gearbox.
Can anyone enlighten me please?
