ID tag for 88hp Johnson

I just got this motor and cannot locate the ID tag in spite of looking in all the usual places. I have learned the plug number G3922202 can be used if ID is missing but how? I also learned these were built from 1988 to1994. any suggestion?

On Johnson/Evinrude motors the model number is used to identify it, the serial number doesn't help much.
