I would like to know from the experts which outboard is a better purchase in terms of build quality.
1991 or 1999 Johnson 70hp 3 cyl 2-stroke.
Both have low hours and appear in good condition. Both have good compression. Both are more or less the same price.
My only hesitation in buying the 1999 motor is that was when OMC had money problems and was apparently skimping on quality of parts to save cash.
The 1991 motor is pre emissions standards so it has tried tested and true old school technology.
I don't care about emissions or fuel economy. All I care about is quality and how long it will last.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
