1990 Johnson J60ELESM which tach will work with this motor can't seem to get tach in boat working.

Pull the old tach from the dash and read the part # off the back. Should not have a problem at ebay or online parts dealers -
Look at back of tach, there may be a rubber plug that is removable. Your motor charging system may be 4, or 6 poles. While motor is off, switch to 4, or 6 pole setting, them pot water on motor and start. If tach still not reading anything check wiring. If reading something, but not correct RPMs, switch motor off, and change to other setting, then try again.
If you end up back at original setting, for RPMs to be correct, then switch may have just been a little dirty?
