  • Breaking flywheel key

    1979 100 hr needed new flywheel. After installing it I broke the key and it would not run. Replaced and broke it again in my yard on the hose. What I'm I doing wrong.

    Are you buying the proper key for your motor (some keys are made from softer metals)? Are you tightening the flywheel down properly? Does motor run smoothly (in neutral) when key breaks? Are coils connected to proper cylinders (could cause firing out of sequence)? If firing out of time, or improper sequence, it could cause key to shear?
