What brand spark plug and item# is recommended for a 1993 50hp Johnson? Also, what should the spark plug gap be set to. The model # of my Johnson 50 hp is VJ50TLETF. Do you recommend Champion or NGK, I hear too many different stories. Thanks...

champion would be QL78YC at .030 gap and ngk is BPZ8HS-10 at the same gap as for whats better u will have to try both brands i know some times champions have a rougher idle than ngk i run ngk in my 50 johnson and never had a problem, did run champions once and my motor did run a little rough at idle.

Thank you very much for the information. I am going to try the NGK and see what happens. I know that I used to use NGK on my 1989 120HP Johnson, and it always had a steady idle, no rough idling, especially during slow trolling off the beaches of NC.

i would use ngk if your doing a lot of low speed usage the champions seem to be good for mid to high rpm application.
