Hey guys calling all Johnson techs or anyone knolageable about them.
I'm a Yamaha, honda outboard mechanic here on cape cod and a friend is having issues with his 90 hp Johnson so I said I'd look at it. ( mistake mabe). I don't know a lot abouth them and don't work in them often enough.
Symptoms. Boat won't go wot. Only gets to 3000 ish rpm. ( 25mph- used to do well over 50). Runs fine and starts right up.
Iv replace plugs
Compression 120 on all 4
While running wot on pond pulled plug wire to find mabe a dead cyl. Not the case all 4 run and firing
Sprayed fuel in carbs at wot to see if it picks up rpm, doesn't
Carbs are clean.
Checked reeds not broken
Shorted temp sensors to ground.
Checked alarms system. No alarms and do sound if put to ground
I'm leaning towRds the optical sensor. But have no proof that's it.
Mabe the power pack?
There are 3 connectors on power pack , 2 of the 3 sall the motor when unplugged. 3rd does not. Mabe this is the issue. Bad power pack?
Any techs on here have a idea?
