the starter nut that holds on the starter gear came off while i was out on the lake couldn't find it so i used a washer and a hose clamp and it worked but before i did that i tried to pull start the motor the little hooked part for a rope on the flywheel is for rapping the rope clockwise thought that was right so tried it and couldn't get it to start.anyways i found the cup and nut the next day under the bottom carb so i put it back together and i used a little dab of red threadlock that nut isn't coming off again but when i started the motor the starter is turning the motor counter clockwise.so why have a flywheel that has the hook for a emergency pull start rope backwards!does anyone else have this problem on there 73 50hp johnson the serial number is 50esl73r is the l for left hand rotation or counter clockwise rotation.
