  • 1997 Johnson 115 four cylinder runs poorly

please bear with me this is rather lengthy. Have good compression on all four cylinders 135 PSI + or - 5 psi. Cleaned carbs and they were full of oil! I have the VRO pump and have read they have problems. I also found missing hose clamps and a real sticky check valve to the inlet of the pontoon boats gas tank. Do I even need this check valve when the pumper bulb has one?
When I make sure I have no air leaks in the gas line supply, clean out the pulser spout put it back together it should run ok right. I also did the link and sync per manual. If not I was thinking about using a separate tank and fitting with pre mix to see if I am still getting the oil failure which I think was the problem in the first place.

The check valve in the built in tank is only required for in-board motors, where the motor might be lower than the tank.

Yes, you should pre-mix fuel anytime there is a problem with the oil system. Once you're sure that oil is being used properly, then can go back to oil system. Pre-mix would be ok at 100 to 1, but I like to air on caution and go 75 to 1.

A good separator filter between main tank and motor, pour contents into a clean glass jar if motor run issues occur (never know what stations sell, until motor starts running poorly.

Good luck, think you're doing fine, post an update when able.
