  • Johnson 15 HP

I am new to boating....well, that is sorta funny, because I've worked on the water most of my life, and have a USCG Chief Engineer's License for unlimited HP diesel engines, but I have never had an outboard.

My 4 year old grandson is a huge part of my life, and I decided that we should add fishing and exploration to our resumes, so I bought a older 14' Sea Nymph aluminum boat with a 15-HP Johnson (Mod. J15RERE....S/N G 0350BB94) so that we can explore the creeks and small islands along the Inter-Coastal Waterway here in Wilmington, NC

I was told that the engine was recently overhauled, and that it was rebuilt with parts that were Ethanol friendly, though I plan to only use the E-Free gas in the engine, for as long as it's available. The engine starts on the first pull, and appears to be nice and strong for it's age. I have to replace the wheel bearings on the trailer, before we get the boat into the water, so I've got some time to search for manuals.

I have no manuals or anything for this engine, so I'm a bit lost. I'm sure I can start it, and operate it, but I don't know enough about it, to feel very comfortable.....yes, I'll be buying a set of oars next week!

Can anyone suggest a location for getting an Operation and Parts manual for this engine. I have tried a few places online, without success, but from what I have seen reading some of the other threads here, there is a good chance that this engine is very similar to other years and Horsepower engines, so I may be able to use a broader brush in my search.
Is there something like the Chilton's Manuals that I've got for the cars, that would apply for my outboard....and "Idiots Guide"?

For years, I have been on the RV.Net forum, and I hope that this one is as active, though I noticed that there are not a lot of threads going....but then again, it's not exactly the season to be out in the boat either.
I hope you can help me in my search, and with any future discussions I have.

Thanks for letting me be apart of this forum.

I generally can find most manuals on ebay. I like the genuine OMC/BRP manuals. I believe your motor is a 1994. Anything close to that year will be fine.
