1989 4hp Johnson rewind starter

Picked up a 89 4hp a week ago, the problem is the pull starter engages about 50% of the time. Is there an adjustment under the hood, I imagine it will only get worse. I have a Seloc manual but cant find my type starter. I am semi mechanical so I would like to repair myself. Any help would be appreciated...........Thank you

Good chance the grease on the starter pawl is getting stiff from age. Perhaps just a good cleaning and re-lubing with fresh (wet) grease.
