Hi and thanks for being here.
I have a 2000-35hp - J35PL38SSB on a pontoon boat.
The lower unit self destructed during a slow cruise around the lake.
Ordered a manual and took it apart.
Forward gear and pinion gear are toast. Everything else is ok.
Considering all the fine shavings in there, I probably have to change all the bushings and bearings anyway. ..correct?
Being 14 yrs old, are parts scarce and or expensive to buy.
Or is it less or a headache to just locate another lower unit.
If it's much cheaper to rebuild, can you recommend a good place to order parts online.
I imagine I have to buy some special tools for the bearing/bushings R&R too.
Please factor this in too.
Thanks in advance.
