50hp johnson

Hi guys I have a 97 model 50 hp johnson . Will free rev perfect when in the water idles like a dream . When I put into gear revs will go up and down then it just bogges down and go slowly and won't get my boat even on a plain . Hope it is a simple fix .hope someone can help .

Run a compression test to see if all cylinders are even. check for spark on all cylinders. try pumping fuel primer bulb and bumping choke to see if can keep it running.
