Hello - I'm a newbie here, and I hope my question does not make anyone mad, but this looks like the right place to post it. So here goes. My 88 E-Rude 48 SPL died this wknd and I'm looking at a 1999 60 HP 2-Stroke 3 Cyl. Johnson that starts and runs well. Compression is good. Oil Inject was shut off. Has good prop. Guy wants $2,000 for it. Is this a decent deal on this motor, and does this motor have a good history for reliability from what you guys have seen - or do I look for another year ?? Thanks for any help you can provide, and again I apologize if this was the wrong forum. I'm new.

The first thing I would do is a quick Google search on that year and model. You'd be amazed at what the internet has to offer. Anyone who's ever had a problem with that motor will have posted something about it. I have a 1998 Johnson Oceanrunner Ficht 115 and when I did a search on it I found hundreds of people reporting problems with that year engine....It's at least a place to start, good luck
