I have a 1978 johnson 115, my nephews 5 y/o overextended the powertilt and now it wont go down without taking bleeder screw out how do I fix this? Trim motor runs up and down but no movement.

Air has probably gotten into the hydraulic system.

One way of bleeding the system is to tilt the engine up so the locking lever supports the engine, secure the fill cap on the tilt/trim reservoir, detach the center rod from the engine, and move the rod down by itself with the down button to the lowest position. Then, move the rod with the up button all the way to the maximum. Slowly unscrew the fill cap to allow the air to escape; replennish the fluid in the reservoir; screw the cap on and repeat the process until no air escapes from the reservoir when the cap is unscrewed. Reattach the rod to the engine, and secure the reservoir cap very tight. If the reservoir cap is not tight, air can enter the hydraulic system and cause more problem. Make sure the cap has the o-ring so it can seal the reservoir fill opening.
