My 1989 110hp sat for several years. In process of bringing back to life, I replaced the water pump impeller. Finally motor runs great, good compression, no overheating indication, all was good. Great water pressure out of the cowling discharge. After running in test tank for 5minutes, I noticed the water discharge was far less. Also noticed substantial amount of water coming from between mid and lower unit. The "weep" holes (for lack of better term) in the front of the lower unit had pressurized streams of water coming from them, I don't remember this being the way it was before. Checked and sealed water pump again, replaced water tube lower gasket, never removed water tube from gasket in bottom of powerhead. I do not see a lot of water discharged from exhaust to indicate an exhaust leak. Any ideas.

Water will come out between mid section and gearcase, drain holes in gearcase. It is exhaust water and no problem. Put boat in water and see if cools engine ok.Last edited by boats.net; 07-08-2014, 01:40 PM.

update
I removed the lower unit again and this time I greased the water tube. Had failed to heed the warning to lube everything when working on an outboard. I believe the water tube was not seating inside the new lower grommet and water was blowing by into midsection. Have ran the engine for about an hour since and motor is discharging water with a good strong stream. As this is all I did, I will always lube everything now.

It's normal for water to come out of mid section it's exhaust water on it's way out of engine.
