GT200 Starter Problems

Hey I have a 1989 Johnson GT200 and am having trouble with the bendix on the starter disengaging as soon as the motor hits to start then never reengages until I turn the key off and back on then it repeats. I had the starter checked out and they said all was fine. Any idea what would cause the bendix to slip off like that?

Have battery load tested and check battery cables are still good.

Ok, I'll try that! The battery is only a year old and shows full charge on my charger. But, that is without a load!
