  • Johnson 115 HP idle and on water power issue. Please help!!!

    Hi

I have a 115 Johnson 1978 and I can't figure out what is going on and it's driving me crazy!!! It's model is 115ETL78c or 115ETZ78c
It's running rough at idle and has no power on the water.
It has spark at all 4 with a blue spark. I have rebuilt the carbs but while the engine is running I noticed that if I remove both of the bottom 2 spark plugs it makes no difference to the motor and if I remove 1 of the top spark plus it turns off.
I have checked the timing and it is 100% according to he manual.
Compression is 120-122 at all 4 which is also good.
I have checked the coils by switching them around (bottom to top and no difference so they are working.

Any help would be much appreciated

I had problems similar before. My problem was that it would show fire when you take the wire off the plug but if you took the plug out 7 put the wire on plug, the plug would not fire. What I'm trying to say is the wire may be firing but the plug may not be.

it is firing at the plug too. I should have added it has new plugs too.
I just ordered a new stator and power pack picking them up tomorrow morning and doing the install and hopefully that's what it is. cost me 600$ for them!

thanks for your reply. any other help would be great!

Today I replaced the Stator and the power packs and it's running a bit better but.

It is missing a bit every know and then. Should I rebuild the carbs again incase I missed something or would it be timing? Or something else?

        So far I've done;

New spark plus, leads, and coil.
        New stator
        New power packs
        Carbs rebuild

I also tried to squeeze the build to see if that makes a difference and it didn't make any difference at all.

Just got to take it out on the water and see how it goes know.
