  • Problem with outboard respray - Advice required

I have had a major problem in getting my 2002 50hp 4 stroke (Suzuki block) resprayed following repair. I am UK based and following the steering arm breaking my outboard enginer replaced the arm and attempted to respray the outboard. Unfortunately the paint crazed - luckily before re-launch. He then resprayed and refitted the engine and I re-launched the boat. Lo and behold - more crazing. I have lost the best part of the season here because he cannot resolve the issue and the engine is in bits.

He has since tried various methods of preparing the engine and respraying with different paints and the same issue occurs. He tells me that he has had the paint tested and it is a) not a paint compatability issue, but b) silicone contamination from polish that has been applied to the outboard sometime in the past.

I have attached a photo and if there is anyone who has had a similar problem or who has any idea how to provide a solution to getting my engine resprayed correctly, I would be grateful.
