  • 1979 85HP I dunno what to do...

This is a motor that was used commercially for something, its heavy duty, it's got 112 in all 4 cylinders. The other day I put the boat in the water, turned the motor on and let it run to warm up like I always do (force of habit) while I park the trailer. I return to the boat and the motor is smoking REALLY bad, but no buzzer, no nothing, and the water thats coming out, isnt HOT its warm like it should be. I shut it off, and take the cover off, and nothing appears to be wrong, so I go about my night of fishing.

When I get back to the docks to flush the saltwater out...it starts and runs normally for a sec, then revvs WAY high, I ended up having to pull the fuel line to get it to shutoff. Now, it wont start at all. BUT it is not seized up, and it turns and turns and turns, but wont run. Yes I have reconnected the fuel line, the fuel filter is fine, the oil mixture was correct.

It just flat out will NOT start, it turns all day.

    Any ideas?

Check to see if have spark to plugs, check to see if have gas in carbs. May need carbs removed and cleaned and check intake gaskets.

Did that today, replaced the gaskets, its getting fuel and spark, still nothing. which baffles me...if its getting fuel and spark, why isn't it turning over?

May have air leak past crankshaft seals or reed valve open.
