I have a timing question on a 1956 Johnson 5.5 hp. model cd13. I removed the armature plate to replace the plug wires. I have been told there is a factory tool to set the timing, or it can be done with an ohmmeter using the marks on the flywheel. I don't understand where the throttle position should be,as this advances the spark. Also with a keyed flywheel I would think it would be ok to set the point gaps and it would run fine. Can someone give me a complete procedure to correctly time this nice old motor? Thank you.

Not sure I don't have a service manual on the older models.
