  • Johnson 110 v4 outboard overheating on starboard side

    changed thermostats and doubled checked they are both working. Changed water pump, and put in new deflectors still over heating ran it under five minutes left side was at 135 degrees right side was up to 190 degrees. please help

    Did you check pressure relief valves in thermostat housing to see if stuck open. Run a compression test to see if may have a blown head gasket.

      head is fine. i took the hoses off thermostat housing and ran the boat at idle the port side had way more water running thru the system so theres a block somewhere on the starboard side. i see no visible blockage so if anyone has input on what to do or try next that would be great.

        Pull the head and water jacket covers and clean water passages around cylinders and head, look for holes corroded through exhaust plate into water passage. If all passages are clean then pull powerhead and inspect water tube and passages going into engine block.
