  • manual trim adjust on 8hp Johnson

I am a real newbie when it comes to outboard engines. I am good with tools and work on other types of small engines. I have a used 1998 Johnson 8hp 2 stroke short shaft and need to adjust the trim angle of the prop. I see the tilt pin and have squeezed the clip and tried to remove the pin with no luck. Applied wd40 and tapped lightly with a hammer and the pin moved. I am unable to pull the pin out manually. Should I use a round metal rod and tap out the pin? Are there any other tricks to tilting the engine? Also between the clamps used to attach the engine to the transom there is a zerk fitting with a handle that can be moved left and right. What is this for?
Thank you in advance for your help

May have to use a heat gun and apply some heat to bracket around pin and tap pin out of hole.

OK, I got the pin out and was able to reinstall it. When the pin was out I still could not change the angle of the engine. Also between the clamps used to attach the engine to the transom there is a zerk fitting with a handle that can be moved left and right. What is this for? The handle can be rotated and lock in the opposite position. I do not know what it does. Is it a lock for the tilt? I have moved it but still cannot tilt the engine. Is there a lock or something I am missing? I wanted to post a picture but do not have the required permissions.

Number 39 in this link is the tilt lock, turn knob counterclockwise to tilt up and clockwise to tilt down, https://www.boats.net/catalog/johnso...ecr/midsection
