Power T&T Compatability: Johnson 1978 115hp on a 1987 110hp VRO

Will a 1978 115 power tilt & trim unit be compatible with a non t&t 1987 110 VRO? Looking at the parts diagram the basic body (Manifold) and reservoir are the same part numbers, though the motors are different and the '78 is a 2 wire setup with a solenoid VS non-solenoid. My 110 VRO parts lookup indicates a 3 wire unit.
I recently purchased a 1987 110 VRO J110MLCUR and have a opportunity to purchase a T&T unit from a 1978 115 Model 1158996. The seller will include the 3 wire switch with the sale.
If in fact the unit is compatible with my motor are there any other components (engine wise) that would need modification?
Will the 3 wire assembly be compatible?

After researching, converting a 3 wire was considerably above my pay grade. The price was really good for the unit, however it mattered little as I passed it up.
