0389575 gearcase head
I have a 1983 Evinrude 7.5. Reverse don't work. I got the gear case apart. Everything looks like it is there and no broken parts (I think!). Looks to me when you assemble it the 0389575 GEARCASE HEAD presses against the reverse gear and loads the internal spring pushing the shaft back a tad, which means you push back the shift pin. What I need to know is how I can measure the GEARCASE HEAD for wear? I know how to use a dial caliper, so if I knew the original measurements I could compare.
