Hi guys, new to the forum today to try to figure out my issue...
Tried all the search functions but there is an error so i'm going to just post my problem and see if someone can help!
I have a J90TLCTE which is new to me this year, (lots of things have been fixed already with boats.net parts)
It is not charging the battery, which is a brand new, marine cranking battery.
I get 12.6v when engine is off, and 12.6v when running at full throttle. obviously there is a problem with that...
From my reading i see a few people have had problems with a bad rectifier that could be my problem?? i know nothing about rectifiers and what they do, how likely is it that this might be the issue? if it doesn't fix it, would the Stator be the next step?
Also, I was wondering how the power is fed back to the battery? the electrical was a mess on the boat when i got it. There are two Red leads heading back to the battery which i didn't know anything about. Would the charging power be fed back on one of these or would it be on the main power cable to the engine (red cranking power cable)??
I am away from the boat for two weeks at work and was hoping to take an educated guess at the likelihood of the problem and order the part so i could drop it in when i get back. So unfortunately i cannot toss a tester on it to diagnose as i would like to right now.
Rectifier is a $35 part, so i don't think that's a bad start even if it turns out not to be the quick fix.
Any help would be appreciated!!!!
thanks
Steve
