Hey all,
I recently bought a 1986 bayliner with a 90hp engine that was a total basket case. Made the boat water tight, did some interior work and got the engine running really good. New plugs wires, cleaned the carbs, redid the whole fuel system from tank to fuel pump.
We took it out on the maiden voyage and it ran fantastic all day long. On our return trip we were at cruising speed and felt and heard this loud bang from the engine. I stopped right away thinking I hit something but found no damage. We continued on home and it started happening about every 3 - 5 minutes at the higher speeds, but not at all on lower speeds. The bang is so violent that it has cracked all the fiberglass repair work around the transom.
What do you guys think could be the cause? Any advice would be much appreciated.
