Longshaft conversion

Am converting 1987 6hp to longshaft. Have parts. Do I have to remove power head to install new water tube? Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Longshaft conversion

I have a 9.9 Evinrude SEL. On it, the water tube has to be inserted into the exhaust tube, FROM ABOVE, BEFORE it is bolted to the powerhead. So, yes, the powerhead HAS to be removed.

Looking at the BOATS.net parts diagram, the 8 hp (while shaped somewhat differently) looks to be assembled in the same way.
